    Throughput of Klaipeda port up 23.7%, Ventspils – 6.9%, Riga – 20.4%, Kaliningrad – 13.2%, Liepaja – 2.4 times, Tallinn – down 29.6% in Q1 08

    In January-March, 2008, throughput of port Klaipeda totaled 7.89 million tonnes (+23.7 %, year-on-year), the port’s marketing department reports.

    Transshipment of oil products amounted to 2.59 million tonnes (+29.9 %), liquefied fertilizers -  368,000 tonnes (similar to January-March 07). Transshipment of raw sugar grew by 4.2 times, agricultural goods - 3.4 times, peat - 1.6 times, timber and timber goods – by 42.7%, ferrous alloys (+41.8%), loose fertilizers – by 31.0%, oil products – by 29.9%, raw materials and processed mineral resources – by 26.3%. in the reported period, transshipment of molasses fell by 43.6%, scrap metal – by 16.2%, ro-ro cargo – by 9.5 % (in tonnage terms), goods made of iron and steel – by 7.0 %.

    Container throughput grew by 21.6 % (TEU) while loading of ro-ro cargo remained at the level of the previous. In the first quarter of the year the number of passengers entering the port of Klaipeda by ferry grew by 8.4% to 42,100. In March, 2008, the port’s turnover totaled 2.88 million tonnes. (+ 26.2%).

    In January-March, 2008, the port of Ventspils handled 8.36 million tonnes (against 7.82 million tonnes in January-March 07). Loading of liquid cargo grew by 19.7% to 5.72 million tonnes, general cargo – fell by 16% to 0.53 million tonnes, loose and bulk cargo – by 12.5% to 2.11 million tonnes. Transshipment of oil products grew by 26.5% (or 1.04 million tonnes), coal – by 15.1% (or 154, 000 tonnes), grain – by 2.8 times (or by 137,000 tonnes). In the reported period, loading transit oil products amounted to 4.96 million tonnes (+26.5%), loose fertilizers - 0.57 million tonnes (-47.5%). In January-March, loading of containerized cargo totaled 37,000 tonnes (similar to January-March 2007). The port serviced 4,040 passengers (-41.5 %, year-on-year).

    The port of Tallinn handled 8.14 million tonnes of cargo (-29.6%). Loading of loose and bulk cargo fell by 68.9 % (or 2.39 million tonnes), liquid bulk cargo – by 15.3 % (or 1.05 million tonnes), general cargo – grew by 1.5 % (or 18,000 tonnes). Liquid bulk cargo accounted for 71.5% of the port’s total throughput.

    Transshipment of coal fell by 96.7 % (or 1.96 million tonnes), oil products – by 15.4 % (or1.06 million tonnes), loose fertilizers – by 58.9 % (or 0.32 million tonnes), grain  - by -42.2 % (or 0.22 million tonnes).

    In the reported period 561 cargo vessels entered the port of Tallinn (against 787 in January-March 07, or –28.7 %).

    The port was visited by 1.34 million passengers (against 1.11 million in January-March 07, or +20.5 %).

    In Q1 08, the port of Riga handled 7.00 million tonnes (+20.4%, year-on-year). Loading of loose and bulk cargo grew by 37.5%, liquid bulk cargo – by 1.4%. transshipment of loose and bulk cargo totaled 4.63 million tonnes. Loading of coal grew by 0.99 million tonnes (+42.9 %), grain- by 79,000 tonnes (up 3.1 times). Coal accounted for 46.7 % of the port’s total throughput.

    Loading of liquid bulk cargo grew by 1.4 % to 1.18 million tonnes. Turnover of oil products has not changed year-on-year.

    In the reported period, transshipment of general cargo amounted to 1.19 million tonnes (- 7.1 % , year-on-year) including 0.56 million tonnes of timber (-20.8 %), 0.45 million tonnes of containerized cargo (+7.5 %). In the reported period, the port was visited by 62,400 passengers against 35,900 in January-March 07 (+74.1 %).

    In January-March, 2008, the port of Kaliningrad handled 4.35 million tonnes (+13.2%, year-on-year). Transshipment of loose and bulk cargo grew by 53.5 %, liquid bulk cargo – by 7.3 %, general cargo – by 2.4 %.

    In Q1 08 transshipment of oil products totaled 2.49 million tonnes (57.3 % of total turnover).

    In January-March 08, the port of Liepaja handeld 2.38 million tonnes of cargo (up 2.4 times). Loading of liquid bulk cargo grew  3.6 times, loose and bulk cargo – by 18.9%, general cargo – by 3.3 times (1.13 million tonnes).

    Transshipment of crude oil grew by 12 times to 464,000 tonnes, oil products  - by 44.0 % to 214,000 tonnes, grain – by 40.5 % to 548,000 tonnes, timber – by 30.0 % to 145,000 tonnes , metal – fell by 44.2 % to 104,000 tonnes, containerized cargo – down by 9.6 % to 13,500 tonnes. Transshipment of packaged agricultural goods and sugar amounted to 410,000 tonnes and 321,000 tonnes respectively (transshipment of the above products was not carried out in the first quarter of the previous year).
