Port of Oulu launches warehouse facility project worth €4.1m
Port of Oulu (Finland) is going invest in a new warehouse project some €4.1 million to expand the storage capacity. The warehouse facility is intended for the storage of timber on an area of 6,000 sq m and for containers and integrated cargo on an area of over 14,000 sq m. Construction of the facility is scheduled to begin this summer, the Company press service said.
The project construction plan has been prepared to be implemented within two years.
Throughout its history the Port of Oulu has been a significant port for the export of lumber. 2009 has brought a significant rise in transshipment of cargo. Since the existing port facilities have became insufficient the stevedoring company has decided to build up storage capacity to boost the export of sawn timber and container storage area to ensure all customer needs.
Port of Oulu is located on the Finland’s North-West on the shore of the Gulf of Bothnia of the Baltic Sea. The berths operated by the stevedoring company are based at the ports Oritkari, Nuottasaari, Vihreyasaari and Toppila. Port of Oulu transships over 3 million tons of cargo annually. The major outbound cargo is paper, as well as timber. The Company also handles imported oil and raw materials for the timber industry.
