Five cruisers call at the Passenger Port of St. Petersburg
"Marine Façade", located on Vasilevsky Island handled today, June 4, five cruise ships with 5,111 tourists on board that called at this passenger port of St. Petersburg. Princess Daphne and Athena operated by World Cruise Agency, Celebrity Constellation (operator Royal Caribbean International) and Celebrity Cruises, Eurodam and Costa Magica (operator Carnival Corporation). Yesterday, 9,461 passengers arrived at the port, the press service of "Marine Facade" reports.
The Port Authority said that after completion in 2011 of "Marine Façade" facilities the passenger port will be able to accommodate 7 vessels, with capacity of 12,000 passengers a day.
This season, "Marine Façade" can to serve approximately 386,150 tourists. Last year, the passenger port handled 245,000 passengers.
Construction of "Marine Facade" port in St. Petersburg began in 2006. The passenger port project worth 6,9bl rubles is being implemented in three phases. In the first phase two berths, a cruise terminal and its onshore facilities were launched. In September 2008, the first vessel called at the port.
The third stage has been under construction, scheduled to be commissioned this year. The port is capable to accommodate cruise and ferry vessels up to 311 meters long and a maximum draft of 9 meters. The port’s new approach canals are 10km deep. The projected depth of canals and harborage is 11 meters. After its completion the port’s quay wall will be 2,108m long, with 7 operable berths.
