Odense sells Baltija Shipyard
Odense Steel Shipyard sells Baltija Shipyard (Baltijos Laivu Statykla) and Baltic Engineering Centre to the Estonian BLRT Grupp AS. In August 2009 it was decided to terminate the shipbuilding activities at Odense.
BLRT Grupp AS will continue to build steel constructions and smaller ships, and will execute the present orderbook, which includes three new Eco-tugs for Em. Z. Svitzer.
Baltija Shipyard has been in the hands of A. P. Møller-Mærsk Group’s Odense Steel Shipyard since 1997. The staff has been cut to around 1,200 persons and the entire plant heavily modernized during the 13 years of Odense-management. The take over will take place in the end of September 2010. Baltija Shipyard was the last foreign subsidiary in the Odense Group.
