Port of Goteborg container throughput up 13 per cent to 296,000 TEUs in Jan-Apr 2010
The Port of Göteborg, which handles a quarter of Sweden’s foreign trade, reports increasing volumes for the year’s first four months. 296,000 TEUs were handled, 13 per cent up from the corresponding period in 2009. In March, the port recorded an all-time high when a total of 83,450 TEUs were handled. The handling of ro-ro units increased seven per cent to 178,000 units.
With a 40 per cent increase, the car segment has increased the most during the period. From January to April, 62,500 cars were handled.
”I’m optimistic about the future and I believe that 2010 will be a good year for Swedish trade. We will probably not reach the volumes we had prior to the recession but there are clear signs that a recovery is under way”, says CEO Magnus Kårestedt.
