HK port cargo throughput rises 20% to 62.8 mln tonnes in Q1
Hong Kong's total port cargo throughput rose 20% to 62.8 million tonnes in the first quarter of this year, according to statistics released by the Hong Kong Census and Statistics Department.
The official figures showed that inward port cargo increased 18% to 36 million tonnes and outward port cargo surged 23% to 26.7 million tonnes, the department said on its website.
On a seasonally adjusted quarter-to-quarter comparison, total port cargo throughput grew 3% in the first quarter. Within this, inward port cargo went up 2% and outward port cargo rose 5%.
In the first quarter, seaborne cargo increased 21% to 42.1 million tonnes, while river cargo rose 18% to 20.6 million tonnes.
The number of ocean vessel arrivals rose 6% to 7,990 in the first quarter, with the total capacity falling 2% to 92.6 million net registered tons. The number of river vessel arrivals grew 4% to 43,020, with the total capacity rising 12% to 25.5 million net registered tons.
