Diana Shipping to buy container ships for about $46 mln
Greek drybulk carrier Diana Shipping Inc said it would buy two new containerships through its unit for about $45.5 million.
Diana Containerships Inc will buy two 3,400 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) container ships built in Germany for euro 37.3 million each.
Diana said the first vessel, expected to be delivered by June 25, is scheduled to be chartered at a gross daily rate of $16,000 with A.P. Moller-Maersk A/S for a minimum of nine months to a maximum of twelve months.
The second vessel is expected to be delivered between July 5 and July 15, Diana Shipping said.
The announcement comes days after Genco Shipping & Trading Ltd and Baltic Trading Ltd agreed to buy eight vessels between them.
Shares of Diana Shipping were up about 2 percent at $12.81 Monday on the New York Stock Exchange. They had closed at $12.58 Friday.
