Ventspils Port’s throughput down 5.9% in Jan-May to 11,7m tons
Cargo turnover at the port of Ventspils (Latvia) in January-May 2010 shrank by 5.93% compared with the same period last year, to 11.712 million tons, the Port Authority press release said.
Liquid cargo volume made up 55.82% of overall freight traffic volume passing via the port terminals, 37.26% were bulked cargo and 6.92% - general cargo.
Port of Ventspils is located near the estuary of the river Venta. The year-round open port covers 2,623.9 hectares and has terminals for loading, offloading of oil, petroleum products, liquid chemicals, fertilizer, metals, lumber, fishing products, coal, containers and Ro-Ro trailers. In 2009 trade flows volume via the port amounted to 26,640,000 tons.
