Russia and the U.S. to settle all outstanding differences over the WTO issue
The presidents of Russia and the United States are going to settle soon "a small number of bilateral issues" related to Russia's joining the World Trade Organization (WTO). They have "agreed on the approach" to such a settlement, the joint statement of the two leaders said, following the talks held in Washington yesterday, PRIME-TASS reported.
According to the statement, "in the coming months the Government of Russia and the U.S. will take strong measures at the bilateral level and with other WTO members to attain and maintain a high rate of problem solving at the final path. "These tasks are clearly defined, the document said.
The United States will provide Russia with "the full support and advisory assistance to help enter the WTO as soon as possible. Moscow, for its part, "will take efforts, on the government level, to accelerate the reduction of regulatory management in line with the WTO rules and generally accepted procedures for accession to the organization," the two presidents’ statement said.
In preamble of the document, Dmitry Medvedev and Barack Obama confirm that the accession of Russia to the WTO "is clearly in the interests of" both Russia and the U.S., and "all the world trading community." The presidents regard this task as "a priority of their trade policy."
