Russia may enact the law on marine environment protection from oil pollution
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has proposed the world leaders to establish a new international treaty framework for the elimination of the consequences of accidents at sea, at the G-20 summit in Toronto, the Kremlin press service reports.
One of the key ideas of President Medvedev’s proposal is that major international companies, engaged in the development of oil, would allocate certain sums from their profits, in a special consolidated fund, as well as insurance of related risks.
"That could be both the fund and a special insurance. We have agreed to instruct our experts to report on these results to the summit, which will be held this year in Seoul. I think it's an important topic. By the way, so we do not stay aside, but rather set an example, Russia in this regard is prepared to introduce in our parliament, the Duma, the special bill on the protection of the marine environment from oil pollution," Dmitry Medvedev was quoted as saying.
