Baltiysky Shipyard launches the Akademik Lomonosov, part of nuclear powered plant
Baltiysky Shipyard JSC (St. Petersburg, of United Industrial Corporation, UIC) launched today the floating power generating plant, named Akademik Lomonosov, the PortNews correspondent reports from the official ceremony.
Sergei Kiriyenko, CEO of Rosatom Corp. said, speaking at the ceremony the power plant would be commissioned in 22 months over.
The Akademik Lomonosov worth 16bn rubles will be the main element of the world's first floating nuclear heat and power plant (NHPP), built by Rosenergoatom Concern.
The NHPP is a new generation of power supply created on the basis of Russian technologies of nuclear shipbuilding. The NHPP’s Referent model should open up the prospects for a radical modernization of energy infrastructure in far-off regions of Russia on the basis of nuclear energy, improved energy security in the Arctic regions, reducing the volume of northern deliveries and ensure the development of mineral deposits in the Far North and the Arctic offshore.
The most important characteristics of nuclear power plant is its mobility and the possibility to install the facility in almost any coastal area, including permafrost regions.
Baltiysky Shipyard founded in 1856 has been one of the leading Russian shipyards. The company builds warships, large cargo ships and ice-breakers (nuclear-powered and diesel) Ro-Ro Ro-Pax vessels, chemical tankers, bulk carriers, etc.
