Austal starts operations at Philippines shipyard
Austal Ltd., the parent company of Mobile's largest industrial employer Austal USA, started its first ship-building operation at a new facility in the Philippines last week, according to gcaptain.com.
In November, Austal purchased a yard in West Cebu Industrial Park near the city of Balamban for 7 million Australian dollars ($7.2 million). The company invested A$5 million more to upgrade the facility.
The Philippines yard is building vessels to support off-shore wind farms.
