The Pusan-based DSME shipyard held an official naming ceremony for the new tanker of Sovcomflot (SCF Group). The vessel was named Georgy Maslov after ex-head of the Soviet Union’s Association "Sovfracht" in the former USSR, the Group press release said.
This is the second vessel built at the shipyard of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering under the newbuilding contract for a series of crude and oil product carriers, signed in October 2010 between Sovcomflot and Zvezda-DSME, a JV of the Russian United Shipbuilding Corporation and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering.
In May, the lead tanker of the series Nikolay Zuyev was commissioned into service with SCF Group’s fleet.
The Aframax vessel meets all international and Russian safety and environmental protection requirements. After putting into service the tanker will set out on her maiden voyage with a cargo diesel fuel from the West Coast of India to the continent. The vessel will be chartered by British Petroleum.
SCF Group’s shipping division Novoship was authorized to supervise the project and the construction, to perform management and further operation of the Georgy Maslov.
The tanker features several competitive technical advantages making the Georgy Maslov environmentally friendly ship. The vessel can run on low-sulfur (< 0.1%) fuel for a long time.
The vessel’s draft and increased breadth enables maximum cargo capacity while passing the Baltic straits, making it the best option for seaborne shipping of hydrocarbons from oil terminals of Primorsk and Ust-Luga.
The tanker is designed to transport simultaneously three types of cargo, placed in 12 cargo tanks, including crude oil and heavy oil. To improve her propulsion efficiency and maneuverability the tanker was equipped with specially designed steering wheel. The underwater part was covered with special paints preventing fouling of the ship’s hull.
Ship’s specifications: length overall - 249.9 m, beam - 46 m, deadweight – 120,600 tons. Shipowner, technical management – Sovcomflot Group.
