Admiralty Shipyards and Sovcomflot plan signing contract for gas carrier construction
In 2009 Admiralty Shipyards OJSC and Sovcomflot OJSC plan to sign a contract for construction of a gas carrier with a capacity of 80,000 m3 of gas, RBC cites Vladimir Aleksandrov, Director General of Admiralty Shipyards, as saying at a solemn ceremony dedicated to metal cutting for construction of Russia’s new scientific research vessel, held in St. Petersburg.
According to Vladimir Aleksandrov, the vessel will be 260 meters long and 35 meters wide.
The delivery of the new gas carrier is scheduled for 2012-2013. The federal budget is supposed to finance the project.
Vladimir Aleksandrov says the management of the Admiralty Shipyards plans meeting with Sergei Frank, head of Sovcomflot as early as the next week to discuss the characteristics of the vessel.
Apart from this, the Director General of Admiralty Shipyards says the company plans construction of another similar gas carrier to be deployed for gas transportation at Arctic – Kaliningrad route. The parameters of the vessel have not been disclosed.
In 2003-2006 Sovcomflot took delivery of 8 tankers with deadweight of 47,400 tonnes from Admiralty Shipyards. Currently the shipyard is building reinforced ice-class tankers Mikhail Ulyanov and Kirill Lavrov with deadweight of 70,000 tonnes.
Admiralty Shipyards OJSC was reorganized from Admiralty Shipyards FSUE in compliance with the order of RF President dated 21.03.2007 N394 on open joint stock company United Shipbuilding Corporation. Nowadays Admiralty Shipyards is a part of Western Shipbuilding Center OJSC. The shipyard specializes in designing, manufacture and upgrading of commercial vessels as well as construction of naval ships.
