Cargo turnover of Russian transport sector down 16.9% in March 09
The State Statistics Service of Russian Federation (Rosstat) informs that the freight traffic turnover in Russian transport sector fell by 16.9% compared to the similar period in 2008, to 361.5 billion tons/kilometres (tkm), RZD-Partner reports.
Rosstat specifies that the rail freight turnover in March was 152.4 billion tkm (fell by 21% compared with March 2008 and grew by 17% compared with February 2009), automobile – 14.7 billion tkm (fell by 17.5% compared with March 2008 and grew by 15.2% compared with February 2009), sea – 9.9 billion tkm (grew by 66.2% compared with March 2008 and grew by 78.9% compared with February 2009), internal water – 0.5 billion tkm (fell by 17.1% compared with March 2008 and grew by 40.1% compared with February 2009), air (transport aircraft) – 0.3 billion tkm (fell by 21% compared with March 2008 and grew by 56.4% compared with February 2009), pipeline – 183.7 billion tkm (fell by 15.4 % compared with March 2008 and grew by 9.7% compared with February 2009).
