China to speed up development in coastal Jiangsu
China will accelerate development in coastal areas of Jiangsu province to make the region a new growth engine of the world's third-largest economy, a State Council meeting decided on Wednesday.
The cabinet said the area, which lies north of Shanghai, should have a better economy and port facilities, especially in cities such as Lianyungang, Nantong and Yancheng.
China will also encourage the construction of nuclear and wind power plants in the region, the statement on Chinese government website said.
It did not give any details about how much money would be invested in coastal Jiangsu, but such statements in the past have served as general declarations of intent and have been followed up by more substantial development plans.
