Australia's Port Hedland May iron shipments up 15.5%
Iron ore shipments from Australia's Port Hedland surged 15.5 percent in May as global miner BHP Billiton and smaller rival Fortsecue Metals Group responded to Chinese demand.
Total iron ore shipments from the port, which handles the two miners' production from Western Australia's Pilbara region, rose to 13.086 million tonnes in May from 11.328 million tonnes shipped in April, port figures showed on Thursday.
