Maersk, Evergreen end slot swap on Far East-Europe (AE-2)
Container shipping heavyweights Maersk Line and Evergreen Line are scrapping their slot exchange arrangement on the Far East-Europe route involving Maersk's AE-2 loop and Evergreen's CEM service, which is to be merged with a new joint service operated by Evergreen and CSCL.
The last westbound sailing under the existing agreement was scheduled for June 13. This slot exchange agreement for 400 TEU per week commenced in March2008 and allowed the two carriers to enhance their range of services to Europe at that time, according to Paris-based AXS Alphaliner.
It said that as a result of this move, Evergreen will no longer make direct port of calls in Korea (Busan and Kwangyang). On the European leg of the journey, the service will stop calling at Bremerhaven.
