Sembcorp named ‘Top 10 Successful Asean Companies in China’ by China-Asean Business Council

Sembcorp Industries (Sembcorp) has been conferred the ‘Top 10 Successful ASEAN Companies in China’ award by the China-ASEAN Business Council (CABC), a testament to the company’s achievements and contributions in China, where it has been investing and operating for the past two decades, the company said in its press release.

Organised by the CABC, one of the main dialogue cooperation mechanisms between China and ASEAN, the award recognises exemplary ASEAN companies which have achieved success in China and are well regarded by their partners. With presence spanning 14 provincial regions in China, Sembcorp has contributed to China’s growth with high-efficiency power generation and renewable energy facilities, innovative industrial water solutions, urban developments and integrated marine solutions.

Mr Tang Kin Fei, Group President & CEO of Sembcorp Industries, said, “We are honoured to be recognised as one of the top 10 successful ASEAN companies in China, an affirmation of our capabilities and the strong reputation that Sembcorp has built over the past 20 years in China. We are privileged to have benefited from and grown in tandem with the country’s rapid growth. With our localised knowledge as well as technical and management expertise in areas such as the utilities and urban development businesses, we look forward to providing more sustainable solutions that will allow us to continue supporting China’s growth and sustainable development.”

The award ceremony, which took place at The Westin Beijing Chaoyang Hotel in Beijing today, was attended by some 300 dignitaries including ambassadors of the 10 ASEAN countries, Chinese government officials as well as members of the ASEAN business community in China. Receiving the award on behalf of Sembcorp was Mr Alan Yau, CEO of Sembcorp (China).

Sembcorp has over 20 utilities operations across 10 provincial regions in China, including Shanghai, Jiangsu, Liaoning, Tianjin, Shanxi and Inner Mongolia. With facilities of around 2,700,000 cubic metres per day of water and wastewater and over 980 megawatts of gross power capacity in operation and under development, Sembcorp has grown its utilities portfolio in China significantly over the years.

Present in leading chemical and petrochemical parks in China, Sembcorp helps industry to ensure the treated industrial wastewater is within discharge standards and contributes to China’s focus on water conservation and environmental protection. It provides specialised water solutions for industries which include industrial wastewater treatment as well as water reclamation and water supply. Sembcorp’s total water management capabilities of integrating wastewater treatment, water reclamation and water supply into a “closed loop” have earned strong endorsement from industries and governments. In particular, its total water management facilities in the Zhangjiagang Free Trade Port Zone of Jiangsu province and Changzhi city of Shanxi province were selected by the governments of Singapore and China as showcase projects of bilateral cooperation in water management.

Sembcorp has also contributed towards delivering the economic engine to support China’s industrialisation and urbanisation by developing and managing three integrated urban developments. They are the 1,000 hectare Singapore-Sichuan Hi-tech Innovation Park in Sichuan Province, as well as the 1,500 hectare Sino-Singapore Nanjing Eco Hi-tech Island and the 330 hectare Wuxi-Singapore Industrial Park in Jiangsu Province. Through comprehensive industry positioning and international investment promotion efforts, Sembcorp seeks to attract the right industries to fit the various needs of China's cities, for example eco-solutions for Nanjing and biomedical and interactive digital media for Chengdu. Located within the business districts, Sembcorp brings in industry activities and provides complete work and live solutions to the Singapore-Sichuan Hi-tech Innovation Park and the Sino-Singapore Nanjing Eco Hi-tech Island.

Besides utilities and urban development businesses, Sembcorp also provides integrated marine solutions such as ship repair, shipbuilding as well as offshore engineering and construction.
