Foreign trade by Russia down 35.1%, at $495.8 b in 2009

Foreign trade volumes of Russia in 2009 totaled $495.8 billion, a year-over-year 35.1% drop, the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) reports citing the data of the Russian Bank.

Overall volume includes exports at $304 billion, down 35.5% from a year earlier while import volume is reported at $191.9 billion (-34.3% y-o-y). The trade balance remained positive, $ 112.1 billion (in 2008 it was $179.7 billion).

Foreign trade turnover of Russia with its major foreign trade partners in 2009 shrank by 36.3%, to $400.487 billion, including the EU countries, by 38.3%, to $236.065 billion, with APEC down by 35%, to $97.243 billion. The same figures were reported for trade with CIS countries, a 35.5% cutback, at $68.537 billion.

Exports of energy commodities in 2009 decreased by 37.5%, to $201.081 billion, including oil - by 37.6%, to $100.551 billion and gas - 39,5%, to $41.982 billion.
