A bill for Russian shipbuilding and shipping industry to be ready this spring

The draft law "On measures to support the shipbuilding and shipping in Russia" will be introduced in the State Duma by March 2010, the Government of Russia press service reports quoting Roman Trotsenko, CEO of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) who has met recently with Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.

The bill is aimed on the creation of specialized shipbuilding areas in Russia, which could have a special tax and customs regimes. That would match the economic conditions in Russia with those in China and Korea, Russia’s major rivals. The point is the construction of very large ships.

Deputy Transport Minister of Russia Viktor Olersky in an exclusive interview with PortNews told that a working group of RF Ministry of Transport with the assistance of representatives of interested federal executive authorities and businesses had already completed the first phase of a new federal law" On measures to support the shipping and shipbuilding”. The Ministry of Transport has turned over the bill to other ministries for preliminary approval.

"We will try to convince our colleagues in other departments of the need for the proposed initiatives. The measures will boost the development of shipping and shipbuilding. If we succeed, in 2010 as we expect the government will introduce the bill for approval in the Federal Assembly", Victor Olersky said in his interview.
