Oil spill reported at ESPO pipeline in Yakutia

An oil spill occurred at a site of Eastern Siberia - Pacific Ocean (ESPO) oil pipeline in Olyekminsky region of Yakutia Territory. This turns to be the third accident at the ESPO oil pipeline from the beginning of 2010 and the second this month, Novosti RIA reported.

According to provisional data of the regional Ministry of Environmental Protection the area of oil spill is about 500 square meters. No details have been yet reported.

January 20, 2010 in Yakutia, at the 1351-km site of the ESPO pipeline, 30 km from the city of Lenskaya a large scale oil spill occurred due to a human factor. 450 cubic meters of oil leaked, the total area of contamination was 20.000 square meters. m.

The second OS accident was reported on Feb.3th 2010 at a site of the pipeline in Skovorodinsky district of Amur. That time the oil pipeline was damaged by an excavator basket, during dredging.
