January IIP in St. Petersburg at 89.9%

According to provisional data for January 2010, the index of industrial production (IIP) in St. Petersburg was at 89.8%, or 5.4 percent up from January 2009, and 9.9 percent against last year’s numbers, the press office of the municipal government Committee for Economic Development, Industrial Policy and Trade reported citing the preliminary data of Petrostat.

The largest growth this January, as much as 1.7 times was in metallurgy and production of finished metal products, chemical production (IIP - 130%), wood processing and wood products (104.0%). The production of vehicles and equipment reached last year’s January level (IIP - 100%).

Production of steel pipes rose as much as 3.2 times, 2.1 times growth in production of rolled metal, in 1.7 times production of paint-and-lacquer materials, nearly in 1.5 times - glass and cardboard. More automobiles were manufactured this January.

However, in January 2010 the cutback was reported in the production of leather and leather products, footwear, machinery and equipment, textile and clothing industries, and several other industries fell below the average level in, the city government said.
