Shenzhen container volume up 16pc in January

The Port of Shenzhen's throughput recovered in January after 10 months' continuous decline, Xinhua reported.
Statistics from the Shenzhen Transport Commission show that the port's throughput increased 29 per cent year on year and 1.05 per cent month to month to 18.69 million tonnes, while container throughput rose 16.14 per cent year on year and 2.24 per cent month to month to 1.77 million TEU.
Shipping sources say the sudden growth results from a resumption of trade led by the gradual recovery of the world economy. Shenzhen recorded a trade cargo throughput of 13.74 million tonnes in January, up 26.87 per cent year on year and 4.97 per cent month on month.
