Government will keep a tight rein on tariffs for rail transportation

The Government of Russia in 2010 will continue its restrain policy on tariffs for railroad transportation. The statement was made today by Prime Minister Vladimir Putin at the Sochi meeting on the investment program of Russian Railways (RZD), RBC reports.

Mr. Putin said that the government would not allow undermining the economic stability of companies (natural monopolies).

Vladimir Putin noted that in 2009 the growth of rates for rail freight was planned in the amount of 15.9%, but in fact amounted to 10.6%. This year, the rates for rail transportation of cargoes are expected to rise 9.4 percent.
