New fees rates have been effective since March 2010 at the seaport of Klaipeda (Lithuania), approved by the Government of Lithuania, said Geda Marozaitė, a spokeswoman for Klaipeda State Seaport Authority.

The Port Authority said the new fees would help boost freight traffic via the port. Dues imposed for tramp container carriers, ro-ro, ro-pax ships are 40 percent down, fees for ro-ro linear ships, calling twice a week at the port were cut as much as 50 percent, a 50-percent tonnage due discount for the ferries (Ro-ro, Ro-Pax), loading, off-loading at least 75 cargo units. There are also a 20% discount for the cruise ship’s second call at the port and a 50% dues cut for the cruise ship’s forth call at the port.

State-run Port of Klaipeda, the northernmost ice-free port on the East coast of the Baltic Sea, is the largest Lithuanian transport hub, connecting sea and inland traffic lanes. Last year Klaipeda port posted a year-over-year 6.3% drop in freight volumes, to some 27.866 million tons.
