Russian Transport Ministry to develop security measures, facing terrorism threats

Russia’s Ministry of Transport is planning to develop its own plan for each transport object in response to terrorism threats, Igor Levitin, Transport Minister told reporters today, after the Russian Federation Security Council meeting.  

"We are currently checking our transport facilities in terms of their vulnerability. We’ll be developing a protection plan for each object (600.000 with vehicles),” PRIME-TASS quoted Mr. Levitin as saying. The Minister emphasized the need to focus on subway, public transport, airports, sea and river ports, railroad stations.

Transport Minister noted that the Russian President Dmitry Medvedev signed today a decree establishing an integrated system of transportation facilities security, which determines the program implementation schedule and its funding. Igor Levitin said the program would be funded as well from the federal as regional budgets.
