In January-August, freight volume handled by the First Container Terminal (FCT, Big Port of St. Petersburg) increased by 28.8% compared with the same period last year, 740,919 TEUs, the terminal owner, National Container Company said. In August, container throughput of FCC rose by 17.8%, to 95,375 TEUs.

The August container volume includes 43,783 TEUs of exports, 51,592 TEUs of imports and 8,617 TEUs of refcontainers. The terminal handled 75 vessels, the average turnover per vessel amounted to 1,272 TEUs.

National Container Company (NCC) is the largest and leading container operator in Russia. The owners of the NCC in equal shares are the First Quantum Group and the FESCO Transport Group. In 2009, container volume passing through NCC’s terminals amounted to some 1.2 million TEUs, contributing 42.1% to total container turnover at Russian ports.
