Vnesheconombank (VEB) will finance construction of two LNG-powered Aframax tankers in the amount of RUB 12 billion, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said at the meeting of VEB Supervisory Board. According to the meeting transcript, the tankers are to be built by Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex in the Primorsky Territory.
“They are powered by gas fuel and meet the most demanding environmental requirements of international conventions. A new standard of safety and quality actually appears in global shipbuilding. It is a modern approach to shipbuilding. I hope, we will be able to compete with the leading shipbuilding countries in this respect having taken over the leading role in development of international transport corridors for the future”, said Dmitry Medvedev.
In September 2018, a set of agreements was signed by Sovcomflot and Rosneft on placing orders with Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex for a series of two large-capacity LNG-powered tankers of new generation. A subsequent long-term time charter for these vessels has been agreed with Rosneft.
