In January 2007, the port of Riga handled 1.838 million tons (-10.7%, year-on-year), RZD-Partner reports. Transshipment of dry loose cargo totaled 1.092 million tons (-11%) including 690.2 thou tons of coal (-23.6%), 180.1 thou tons of mineral fertilizers (+76.7%) and 75.4 thou tons wood chip (-33%). Over the reported period the port handled 353 thou tons of general cargo (-13.2%), including 173 thou tons of timber (-29.7%) and 114.6 thou tons of containerized cargo (-11%). Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo amounted to 393.2 thou tons (-7,6%). It was oil products, transshipment of which decreased by 5.6%, year-on-year. In 2006 cargo turnover of the port of Riga totaled 25.358 million tons (+3.8%).
