Sovcomflot and VEB.RF sign agreement to finance construction of pilot gas carrier by Zvezda shipyard
Sovcomflot, VEB.RF and Shipbuilding Complex Zvezda have signed a package of agreements to finance the construction of a pilot gas carrier that is to be further chartered to NOVATEK for operation under Arctic LNG 2 project, VEB.RF group says in a press release.
The icebreaking gas carrier of Arc7 class is intended for year-round transportation of LNG in challenging ice conditions of the Northern Sea Route. The tanker will be able to break through ice of over 2 meters thick.
The Supervisory Board of VEB.RF has approved financing of 15 vessels, the delivery of which will be synchronized with the launching of Arctic LNG 2.
“It is the seventh ship in respect of which we have signed an agreement for financing of construction at Zvezda with further leasing out of the ship. Participation of VEB.RF in delivery of 21 tankers has been approved by today. Expansion of the shipyard’s backlog of orders is fundamental for further efforts of our partners towards enhancing of local production”, commented Artem Dovlatov, Deputy Chairman of VEB.RF.
