Hamburg Sud and Senator Lines end cooperation on Mediterranean Service
Hamburg Süd and Senator Lines are to part ways in their current Joint Mediterranean Service, connecting the northern European continent with the eastern Mediterranean. The last departure will be in August. The service is served by four vessels of between 1,500 and 1,700 teu - one from Senator Lines, the other three provided by its Hamburg partner. Both want to remain active in this trade, though. Hamburg Süd that it wanted to continue the service on its own with four ships, probably of about the same capacity. The current service calls at Felixstowe, Hamburg, Antwerp, and then Alexandria, Beirut, Latakia, Mersin, Izmir and Salerno. A spokeswoman for Bremen-based Senator Lines said that the end to the long co-operation had come at the request of Hamburg Süd. Senator Lines was planning to remain in this trade with a new partner and more capacity. Negotiations were at an advanced stage, but it was too early to give details, she added. The subsidiary of Hanjin is only just recovering from a slash of services implemented last year, following financial trouble.
