Daewoo raises revenue forecast after massive containership order
Tру world's second largest shipbuilder, Daewoo Shipbuilding Marine & Engineering Co., has landed a KRW1.37 trillion (US$1.49 billion) newbuild order for nine containerships.
The identity of the European shipping company that placed the order has not been disclosed, reports South Korea's Antara News/Asia Pulse.
It said the ships are scheduled for delivery by March 2011, according to a regulatory filing. This comes after the shipbuilder bumped up its annual sales target to $16 billion for this year, up from its earlier forecast of $11 billion, due to the increased orders for box ships.
So far this year, Daewoo Shipbuilding has secured orders valued at $11 billion to build 84 ships and other offshore equipment.
