Ships to enter Russia’s International Register of Shipping are free from import duties
According to RF Government decree, the vessels intending to be registered with Russia’s International Register of Shipping should be free from import duties, tamognia.ru reports. The decree signed by Mikhail Fradkov stipulates this exemption is possible if the importer provides the customs authorities with a declaration and a certificate on vessel’s registration with the Register as well as with a copy of a document certifying payment of a state duty for registration. However, the vessels failing to provide the above documents but wishing to be registered, may be exempted as well, provided that they sign a written commitment to furnish the documents within 45 days from the moment customs documents are accepted. Those failing to provide the documents within the specified term should pay the import duty.
If a vessel is excluded from the Register, the owner should pay customs duties the next day. The Government entrusted RosMorRechFlot to inform Federal Customs Service about expulsion of vessels from the Register on a quarter basis.
