Keppel unit clinches four orders worth $350m
Keppel Corporation, the world's largest builder of offshore oil rigs, said yesterday its wholly owned subsidiary Keppel Singmarine (KepSing) has won four orders worth a total of $350 million to build six offshore support vessels and a derrick pipe-laying vessel.
The pipe-laying vessel is a first for KepSing. And it's for a new customer, Global Offshore International.
The 163-metre multi-purpose construction vessel will be equipped with two 4,500-KW electric propulsion thrusters, six positioning thrusters, a 1,200-tonne crane and pipe-laying equipment that can lay pipes up to 1.5 metres in diameter in water up to 3,000 metres deep. This equipment will be supplied by the owner.
'We are glad that Global Offshore recognises Keppel Singmarine's versatility and expertise in building all types of vessels in accordance with owners' specifications.'
KepSing executive director Hoe Eng Hock said: 'Derrick pipe-laying vessels are highly specialised ships that have to be tailor-made to owners' requirements.

The second contract is for another first-time customer - Greatship Global Offshore Services Pte Ltd. It is for the construction of two 94-metre, 4,600 deadweight tonne platform supply vessels. These will be equipped with diesel electric propulsion and dynamic positioning systems. The third and fourth contracts are for repeat customers.
Hadi H Al-Hamman Establishment, which has ordered 16 vessels from KepSing since 2001, has now ordered two 60-tonne bollard-pull Anchor Handling Tug/Supply (AHTS) vessels with dynamic positioning system, to be operated in the Middle East.
And Russia's Lukoil has commissioned two Ice-Class multi-purpose standby and rescue vessels for the Caspian Sea - the sixth and seventh vessels to be built for Lukoil.
Delivery dates for the new vessels are expected between the second half of 2009 and the first half of 2010.
KepSing has won contracts for more than 50 offshore supply vessels since focusing on designing and building specialised vessels in 2002.
It is the specialised shipbuilding arm of Keppel Offshore & Marine, which has a network of 20 yards in the Asia-Pacific, Gulf of Mexico, Brazil, Caspian Sea, Middle East and North Sea regions.
Global Offshore International is a wholly owned unit of US-listed Global Industries. It is a leading provider of offshore construction, engineering and support services for the oil and gas industry, with a premium fleet of vessels.
Greatship Global Offshore Services is wholly owned by Greatship India, a wholly-owned subsidiary of GE Shipping.
Hadi H Al Hamman Establishment is a leading general contracting, trading and marine service provider to the oil and gas petrochemical Industries in the Middle East, headquartered in Saudi Arabia.
