The Far Eastern Freight Conference today reported that its members' westbound Asia/Europe volume increased 21.2 percent in the second quarter to reach 2.4 million TEUs. The 16 shipping line members of the FEFC are estimated to control about two-thirds of the available Asia/Europe vessel capacity. The FEFC said Far East-to-North Europe second quarter volume rose 19.5 percent year-on-year to 1.52 million TEUs, while the Asia-to-Mediterranean growth was 24.3 percent to 878,708 TEUs. After six months of 2007, the conference lines?total westbound volume improved 21 percent to 4.52 million TEUs. The FEFC's eastbound figures, which were only available for up to the end of May, showed a growth of 8.6 percent to 1.36 million TEUs.
