Hyundai planning dedicated car export terminal in Chennai
South Korean automaker Hyundai is said to be developing plans for a dedicated auto terminal at the Port of Chennai on India? eastern coast, according to a report Wednesday in the Economic Times. Chennai is already a hub for auto imports and auto manufacturers, but a Hyundai India spokesperson told the newspaper that it would use the car terminal (envisioned as a six-story, 10,000-square-foot facility with capacity for 6,000 cars) as an export base to ship to Europe. The report said Hyundai is targeting the export of 300,000 cars by 2010, with two of its most popular small car models, the Santro and the Getz, already being produced near Chennai.
