Estonian port of Paldiski opens new Russia-Sweden transit corridor
From August 3, new transit corridor will be opened in the port of Paldiski (former Baltic port, Estonia) for cargo transportation between Russia and Sweden. Besides, new corridor to China will be introduced later. According to Robert Antropov, BOD Chairman of Paldiski Sadamate AS, this project is one of the first priorities, RZD-Partner reports.Antropov says the vessel is to transport containerized paper, wood and steel 2 days a week. Among companies interested in extension of the corridor to Shanghai is Sweden-based IKEA as the majority of its production facilities are in China.
Currently the port transships automobiles from Europe to Moscow. They are delivered to the port by vessels and then delivered to Russia by railway.
According to Antropov, it would be reasonable to integrate southern and northern part of the port being sure in growth of the port’s profitability.
