Nordcapital orders eight ships of 13,100 teu
Nordcapital today announced an order for eight ships of 13,100 teu at Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) for a total price of USD 1.4 bn, i.e. USD 175 M per ship. they will be delivered between April 2010 und März 2011 and will be managed by E.R. Schiffahrt, headed by Erck Rickmers (Nordcapital as as a fund riser for the E.R. ships). This order was in the pipeline for about one month, remaining subject to finding a charterer for the ships. The charterer -if any- is not unveiled.The exact capacity stands at 13,092 teu, broken down in 6,018 teu in holds (11 tiers) and 7,074 teu on deck (nine tiers). The ships will be propelled at 24.7 knots on a design draft of 14.5 m, thanks to a 12 cylinder Man-B&W engine developing 68,520 kW and they will be fitted with 800 reefer plugs. The scantling draft is set at 15.50 m for a deadweight of 140,570 tons. The Summer draft should be a pinch deeper than the scantling draft, when it is computed.Click here for pocket planThis order pushes the number of Super panamax ships (19 rows breadth - 12,300-13,100 teu) firmly ordered to 41 units, according to AXS-Alphaliner records. All were ordered during the past three months.
