Hamburg-Sued shipowner not interested in buying TUI's Hapag-Lloyd
German retailer Oetker Group's shipowner Hamburg-Sued is not interested in buying TUI AG.'s shipping line Hapag-Lloyd, a spokesman for Hamburg-Sued told Die Welt newspaper, denying recent speculation. 'I have not seen any balance sheet of Hapag-Lloyd that shows that this would be a lucrative purchase,' the spokesman said. TUI last month decided to split Hapag-Lloyd from the rest of the company to focus on tourism. The company said it will divest Hapag-Lloyd via a spin-off, a merger or a sale to an investor.
Media reports have speculated that Hamburg-Sued as well as Temasek Holding's Neptune Orient Lines may be interested in buying the shipping line.
