Konstantin Buryanov: “Laky Verf is ready for new projects”

Konstantin Buryanov, Director General of Laky Verf LLC tells IAA PortNews about new concept for yacht classification, development of aftersale services and the company’s results in 2013.

    - Mr. Buryanov, could you please summarize the results of 2013. How many vessels were built? What is the shipyard’s backlog of orders for 2014-2015?

    - In 2013, the shipyard built and delivered eight boats of projects 14М and 13М. The list of customers consists of RF Transport Ministry, Ministry of Emergencies, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Federal Customs Service of Russia.

I’d like to emphasize that accommodation convenience and quality of interior decoration is very high as it has been frequently marked by the customers. Besides, the vessels are fitted with the state-of-the-art communications facilities including satellite phones, thermal cameras, sensible video cameras and other equipment.

As for our plans for 2014, we have signed a number of contracts to supply boats to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Gosmorrechnadzor (State Marine and River Supervisory Authority) in 2013. It is too early to speak about the year of 2015 as Laky Verf signs state contracts every year and the backlog of orders for 2015 will be developed by the end of the current year.

    - Russian Maritime Register of Shipping has developed and plans to commence application of the new concept for yacht classification. How can this influence the activities of Laky Verf, which has been building yachts of project 23М06 from 2005?

    - The new regulations will be useful if they comply with EU Directive on Recreational Craft, 94/25/EC. Initially, Russian Maritime Register of Shipping and Russian River Register had no special regulations for motor yachts and it was a problem. Motor yachts used to be treated as large vessels, hence the requirements applied. Therefore, there were a number of problems. Sometimes it was difficult to find certified suppliers which entailed problems with component procurement.

It is still difficult to estimate the effect from the new concept as Laky Verf does not work with motor yachts while the yachts we have built comply with the EU Directive which allows selling such vessels in the EU and within the Russian Federation. Generally, I’m sure the novelty introduced by the Register will bring a positive effect into the entire industry due to introduction of new regulations.

    - Does the shipyard eye implementation of any unique projects?

    - We carry out various design studies. For example, we are developing the activities in the sector of ecological fleet. This project has been implemented in Europe already. We try to adapt it to the domestic market and we are currently looking for the customers. I’d like to underline that the shipyard is ready to commence new activities depending on the industry demands.

    - What about the service activities? Is
    there a demand for it?

    - Aftersale services is a developing activity of Laky Verf with the growing number of vessels we sell. As we build vessels basing on our own project, which is not familiar for operating organizations, we have to expand our aftersale services, both guarantee and post-guarantee services. During the navigation period, our mobile team goes to different regions upon orders.

Aftersale services are in demand as they are prompt and their quality is high. In this context, I’d like to say that aftersale services of Laky Verf have been appreciated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs at the Round Table Meeting within the framework of the XVII International Exhibition Interpolitech–2013 held in Moscow on October 22-25, 2013.

    - What are your major suppliers?

    - We work with a number of Russia and foreign organizations. One of the major suppliers of the shipyard is Volvo Penta (Volvo Vostok CJSC) supplying propulsion plants and devices. It is comfortable to work with this company as it provides high quality services and its supplies are always in time.

    - What is about the personnel policy? Is there a shortage of personnel? How
    do you attract employees?

    - Laky Verf is a small company and specialists involved in the project development see the result of their work quite soon.  It is certainly an advantage which attracts employees to our company. It should be noted that we cooperate with some educational institutions as Marine Technical University of Saint-Petersburg, Mechanical and Technological College of Kirov and Water Transport College of Shlisselburg. Student s from these institutions receive work experience at our shipyard with the best of them remaining in the company.
