10-year lease at Brooklyn container port approved
A container port is remaining on the Brooklyn waterfront for another decade. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey on Thursday approved a $25 million, 10-year lease with shipper American Stevedoring Inc. at the Red Hook terminal.
The company's lease expired a year ago. The company hadn't been paying rent since last November.
City officials once had hoped to shift shipping operations to other ports in New York harbor and convert the Brooklyn port into a development with housing, a hotel and an expanded terminal for cruise ships.
