Big Port St. Pb Authority deploys icebreakers at NW seaports
Port Authority of Big Port St. Petersburg has stationed icebreakers at the North-West seaports for winter season operations, the harbormaster Peter Parinov said Wednesday.
Two icebreakers, the Kapitan Sorokin and the Moscow were deployed to escort cargo ships to the port of St. Petersburg, the Yermak and 50 Years of Victory will be operating at Primorsk port, Kapitan Nikolayev and Kapitan Dranitsin - at Ust-Luga port.
Previously, Rosmorport said it had planed to deploy in the Gulf of Finland seven icebreakers, including a nuclear-powered one, for the 2011-2012 winter navigation period. The nuclear-powered icebreaker 50 Years of Victory has been time-chartered by Rosmorport for 100 days. The vessel will reportedly arrive in St. Petersburg by the end of January 2012.
