Pirates free chemical tanker
Somali pirates have released a 29,871 dwt chemical tanker on Wednesday after it was hijacked for 215 days, according to Glory Ship Management, Seatrade Asia online reports. The pirates released 21 of the 25 crew onboard the Singapore-registered Gemini, and held on to four South Korean seaman including the captain.
“We are expending all efforts to secure the release of the four South Koreans still held as hostage,” Glory said in a statement.
The chemical tanker had left Kuala Tanjung, Sumatra, Indonesia with a cargo of over 28,000 metric tonnes of crude palm oil on 16 April when it was hijacked.
