Document on Russia's accession to WTO to be signed on Dec. 16
Signing of a document on Russia's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) is expected on December 16, RBC reported citing a Russian official.
According to Russian Permanent Representative to the EU Vladimir Chizhov the signing ceremony will be held on December 16, at the conference, which opens simultaneously with EU-Russia summit in Geneva. Earlier it was reported that Russia plans to join the WTO before the end of this year.
Sakhalin starts salvage of the Oriental Angel in Chukotka
The Rubin, a salvage ship of Sakhalin regional emergency and rescue department has commenced the operation to rescue the South Korean trawler Oriental Angel, stranded off the southern coast of Chukotka, the regional authorities said.
The rescuers plan for the active phase of the salvage operation to approach the stricken vessel and assess her condition. The captain and senior engineer from the Russian trawler Oriental Discovery will help inspect the vessel.
Earlier reports said that on November 17 the trawler’s cargo holds laden with fish meal took fire when the ship was in the Bering Sea. While the Oriental Angel was heading for the Beringovsky settlement of Anadyr district, the crew members were trying unsuccessfully to put out the fire. As a result, 89 sailors were forced to board liferafts and leave the burning ship. Later the people were picked up by vessels, which happened to be in the area. The abandoned ship hove to and at 11:00 am, Nov. 20 ran aground near the Cape of Voyenny Topography. The South Korean vessel’s owner Keuk Dong Fisheries Co., Ltd has applied to the Chukotka government for assistance in salvage of the stricken ship.
