Vostochny port throughput up 8 percent to 35.2m tons
Freight flows passing through the Port Vostochny (including Kozmino terminal) for the 11-month period grew by 8% from January-November of 2010, to 35.2 million tons, the Association of Commercial Sea Ports (ASOP).
Port Vostochny (East Port) is the largest and deep-sea Russia’s port in the Far East. It is located on the shores of unfreezing Wrangel Bay of the Japan Sea near the village of Vostochny, 30 km east off Nakhodka. The annual port’s throughput exceeds 18 million tons of different cargoes. The port owns 19 berths (4.7km long, depths ranging from 6.5 to 16.5 meters), which can accommodate 150,000dwt vessels. Vostochny has one of the largest container terminals in Russia, a coal terminal and developed warehousing facilities. The stevedoring companies operating at the port specialize in handling primarily chemicals (fertilizers, methanol) and lumber. In 2010, Port Vostochny’s cargo throughput rose by 7% year-over-year, to 20.34 million tons.
