Neva-Metal orders STS Kalmar
JSC Neva-Metal, a stevedore unit of St. Petersburg-based Severstal Group placed an order for a diesel-electric powered Ship-To-Shore crane Kalmar with a Poland-based Cargotec Netherlands’ assembly plant, Neva-Metal said.
Neva-Metal expects the handling equipment will enable to company to cut on energy costs up to $400,000 a year and boost container throughput by 3.5 times.
The STS crane will be custom-tailored according to the port area characteristics and will feature effective sway prevention and horizontal micro-motions for the container positioning.
The equipment is scheduled to be put into service at St. Petersburg container terminal in 2012.
CJSC Neva-Metal is a division of Cherepovetsk Severstal. Neva-Metal specializes in handling ferrous metals exported by Cherepovetsk Severstal, secondary metals from Severstal-Vtormet and containerized cargo at the berths located in the 3rd Cargo Area at Big Port St. Petersburg. Throughput of the stevedoring company in 2010 amounted to 2.374 million tons.
