Transneft rejects the information about the intent not to resume oil supply to Lithuania by pipeline
Russian state pipeline monopoly – Transneft – rejects the information about the intention not to resume oil supply to Lithuania by pipeline the operation of which has been terminated from July owing to the leak. This information has been provided by oilcapital.ru. The Moscow Times newspaper quoted Semen Vainshtok, head of Transneft, as saying that complete rejection of supply is possible due to obsolescence of 42-years old long-distance pipeline "Druzhba-1". Later the representative of the monopoly made an explaining statement. "The variant of termination of supply to Lithuania forever has never been discussed ", he said referring to Vainshtok. After leak at Bryansk Region of oil pipeline, which supplies oil to Byelorussian refineries and to Lithuania, the object undergoes independent expertise in order to determine the possibility of modernization or installation of a new pipe, Transneft says. "We are waiting for the results of independent expertise. As soon as we get it we start the repair. In the worst case we’ll have to replace the whole pipe of 140 kilometres long" said the representative of oil transportation company. He failed to say how much time it would take to carry out expertise and repair or when the supply is to recover.
