Cargo turnover of Nakhodka port grew by 5% in January-August 2006 amounting to 5.6 million tons
Cargo turnover of Nakhodka port in January-August 2006 grew year-on-year by 4.98% amounting to 5 618.9 thou tons. This information has been provided to PortNews IAA at the East Branch of Rosmorport FSUE. Over the reported period the port handled 4 238.6 thou tons of general cargo (+15.5% as compared with January-August 2005). Container turnover amounted to 171.9 thou tons (+79.2%), transshipment of metals amounted to 3 921.8 thou tons (+15.5%), transshipment of metal scrap decreased by 20.8% amounting to 24.0 thou tons. The port handled 1 309.8 thou tons of timber (+3,6%), including round timber amounting to 1 087.3 thou tons (+4.2%), sawn timber – 222.5 thou tons (+0.9%). Over eight months the port handled 70.5 thou tons of bulk cargo, that is 5.9 times below the result of January-August 2005. Coal and coke transshipment decreased by a factor of 23.1 amounting to 9.2 thou tons. Ore transshipment amounted to 61.3 thou tons, that is 3.3 times below year-on-year results.
Nakhodka port is located in the Northern part of Nakhodka Bay at both shores. The port is navigable all-the-year-round. It is linked with railroad system of Russia and Western Europe through Trans-Siberian Railway.
