FOR the first time, South Korea's main seaport of Busan, will service post-panamax box vessels from Geneva-based MSC and Marseilles-based CMA-CGM before year end which could see a return to the ports old form, say officials.
"The event should help Busan's status as an international port and boost efforts to transform it into a logistics hub for northeast Asia," a BPA official said, since its fall two ranks having been overtaken by Shanghai and Shenzhen port's emerging strength.
The largest vessel to dock at the port so far has been Cosco's 9,600 TEU vessel, but it will soon be followed by the 11,700-TEUers, the MSC Francesca and the MSC Ivana and a 10,000-plus TEU ship from CMA CGM.
